How is a Shepherd’s heart opposite of human nature?

Paul tells us that all temptation is common to man (1 Cor. 10:13), i.e. it can be traced to one of three heart motivations. These are found many places in Scripture but we will use the wording of 1 John 2:16. 1) The lust of the flesh. "If it feels good, do it!" 2) The lust of the eyes. "You owe it to yourself to get this." 3) The pride of life. "Be your own boss." "I can't wait until I am 18 and I can run my own life." 1) While a shepherd's heart is humble, the heart of human nature is to replace God with myself, to make God in my own image. 2) While a shepherd's heart is to be contented, the heart of human nature is to be covetous. Paul says this is a form of idolatry (Col 3:5). 3) While a shepherd's heart is meek, the heart of human nature is to claim my rights to feel good, and be served by others.
