How much intelligence does it take to see or not see evidence for design in nature?

I recently checked out a book from the public library entitled, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Understanding Intelligent Design. It has 324 pages so it covered the subject thoroughly. However, the book has several weaknesses. First, though it may take a large book to understand the ID controversy to idiots, it does not take such a book to see design in nature. Design is ‘clearly seen.’ Even atheists see evidence of design. Atheist Richard Dawkins stated, “Biology is the study of complicated things that give the appearance of having been designed for a purpose.” Of course, we who believe the Bible know it is more than just ‘appearance.’ Even Darwin saw evidence for design but argued that the process of natural selection could create design. “To him, imperceptibly tiny steps, each conferring some slight advantage, could accumulate the high level of design we see in living organisms.” Many of the modern proponents of Intelligent Design being taught in public schools are not even Christians. Thus, seeing design in nature must lead to the more important step- getting to know the Designer, Jesus Christ! (Heb. 1:2)
The second problem with the book is the assumption that understanding intelligent design is a mental matter alone. Read the book and you understand the issue, the author hopes. Instead, the Bible speaks of recognizing God’s fingerprints in His creation as a matter of the heart. Paul tells us, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” (Romans 1:20) In the next verse, he states that they knew God but chose not to glorify Him and, ultimately to not retain Him in their knowledge.(v. 28). The Apostle Peter says they are ‘willingly ignorant.’ (2 Peter 3:5) That is, those who refuse to believe creation have made a choice to do so against the evidence. An agnostic says we cannot know God because we cannot see. The Bible says we will not know God and therefore we cannot see. “. . . their foolish heart was darkened.” (Rom. 1:21). It also says that if we will believe because of Who promised it, then we will see. Faith comes before seeing. (2 Cor. 4:13).
Open your heart and meet the Designer. Then open your eyes and you will see His design.
